Smog check for vehicles from other states

California has some of the strictest emissions rules in the country, so a vehicle from another state usually has to pass a California smog check before it can be registered here. That includes cars you bring with you and vehicles you buy from out of state.

How to get your out-of-state car registered

  • Check whether your vehicle is exempt by age, fuel type or weight
  • Get a smog check at Blaze Smog. Walk-ins welcome
  • Finish your registration with the DMV using your passing smog certificate

Remember, a smog certificate is generally valid for 90 days, so time your test close to your DMV visit.
